The relationship between effort and luck
What I would like to talk about is the relationship between effort and luck. 🍀
I think many people are interested in to what extent luck has an impact on our life.
We know that luck is important and at the same time we think that it’s an uncontrollable thing.
We also have heard that if you are prepared, you’ll be able to grab good luck and opportunities when they come along.
So what is the sequence?
What comes first and how can you be more efficient at grabbing good opportunities?
Well, I think it’s like this.
Put in effort first and do your best. This will leave you in a good position to grab good opportunities when they arise.
If you just sit and wait, something will happen. But that will not be something that you can control really.
If you put in a reasonable amount of effort and your standards go up, things will be different.
We are living in a band of luck, with upside and downside.
If you put in a lot of effort and raise your average standard to a higher standard, then from this elevated position, any upside is better but even if you are facing a challenge, the downside will be higher than if you had done nothing.
You can wait and wish for good luck but the percentage is just probably 50/50 which means that even if you wish for good luck you have an equal chance that you may face bad luck.
So first thing that I would urge you to do is to put in effort so your standards go up and then you will be able to capitalize on luck when it comes along.
Your position then will be far higher than where you are now.
